Chamberlain University INFORMATICS TRACK
The practicum courses in the informatics track focus on the
achievement of AACN advanced-level competencies and
informatics competencies. The track includes 3 Concluding
Graduate Experience (CGE) courses: NR-640B, NR-642, and
NR-643. Students must complete 72 practicum hours in each
course for a total of 216 hours.
In addition, mentors for the Informatics practicum courses
should have a role in informatics. Examples of mentor roles
include EHR director, project manager, computer educator,
system builder, analyst, director of informatics or quality, or
IT nurse.
Many sites are appropriate for the informatics practicum,
including hospitals, health systems, consulting firms,
insurance companies, government health agencies,
and other sites where informatics professionals manage
health-related information systems.
The informatics practicum is designed for the student
to engage as the project manager for their project, and
as such, depending upon the project, the role of the mentor,
and the electronic systems the mentor works with, the student
will need some level of system access and data access.
